New Paris Speedway Recap

August 29, 2009

Written By: Kelly Grubb

The end of the 2009 season is upon us and it was obvious by the tensions on and off the track this past Saturday night at New Paris Speedway. The cool temperatures made for a fast track and fast times.
The Late Model B Feature started off our Feature show with the No. 20 of Don Drury and the No. 96 of Mark Vance starting on the front row. Mark Vance took his new No. 96 to the lead on lap 4 and continued on to win his first win of the year and first win in the Late Model division. Coming in 2nd was the No. 8 of Curtis Holt and finishing 3rd was the No. 4 of the Slasher, Rick Slusher.
The Street Stock B Feature was the next on the track with Brandon Fink No. 60 starting on the pole and to his right door, the No. 88 of Harley Stanley. The green was dropped and the No. 60 of Fink, the No. 67 of Mike Vidulich, the No. 71 of Larry Saunders and the No. 20 of Gary Wiles all took turns leading this race until the Doughboy Racing’s No. 71 took the lead and held on to it. It looked like Saunders had the win until lap 18 when the No. 150 of Tony Barcus passed Saunders and went on to win the race. The No. 71 held on for 2nd and the Wild Child, Gary Wiles No. 20 finished in 3rd.
The Late Model main event saw the No. 34 of Kenny Weaver starting on the pole with the No. 11 of the Tool Man, Tim Taylor sitting on the outside pole. Brandon Maynard, who is currently 3rd in points, took the lead on lap 10. After several cautions, Brandon Maynard crossed the start/finish line first for the win while the No. 9 of Kenny Whitman finished 2nd and the No. 32 of Josh Sommers who is in contention for the rookie of the year, finished 3rd.
The Street Stock A Feature pole sitter was the No. 20 of Rick Richardson. The No. 18 of Billy Rumbaugh who started on the outside pole, jumped to an early lead and held everyone off until lap 17 when the No. 61 of Travis Schlabach made his way to the front to lead the last 13 laps of the race and continue on for the win. Points leader Bobby Schisler No. 17 finished 2nd and Billy Rumbaugh No. 18 finished 3rd.
Davie Renbarger No. 13 started on the pole of the Mini Stock A Feature with the No. 34 of Mark Hughes to his right door. The green was dropped and Mark Hughes No. 34 jumped up front to lead until the fast qualifier and points leader No. 6 of Jim Anglemyer took the lead on lap 7 and won his 10th A Feature of the year. Hughes held on for 2nd while JR Ryman No. 17 finished 3rd.
The Mini Stock B Feature started off with a bang as several of the cars ended up in the wall before a full lap was ran. After a complete restart, Bobby Archer, No. 86 took the lead on lap 2 but blew his time on lap 6 and had to go to the tail. The No. 18 of Timmy Dooley took the lead on lap 10 and continued on for the win for his 2nd feature win of the season. Finishing 2nd was the No. 84 of Tony Nero and bringing home 3rd was AWA Racing’s Rookie, the No. 1 of Nick Huffman.
Coming up this coming Saturday, September 5th is Season Championship Night which will end our 2009 regular season. September 12th will be the first ever Night of Destruction and then September 18th and 19th will be our annual Blow Out. Happy and Safe Racing!
