Our regular season ended on September 5th with our Season Championships and Holy Cow, what a show it was!
The Late Model A Feature was tense and full of cautions as the No. 4 of Rick Slusher sat on the pole with the No. 46 of Alex Pratt to his right door. The 2nd row inside was the No. 11 of Tim Taylor and starting on the outside was the No.70 of Kenny Lollar Jr. The green was dropped and the No. 4 of the ‘Slasher’ jumped up front to an early lead. While Rick Slusher was having a blast leading the race, the New Paris favorites of the No. 35 of Bobby Stremme and the No. 87 of Ty Hayes were working their way from the back to the front. On lap 25, the No. 87 of Hayes took the lead with the No. 35 of Stremme right on his tale taking over 2nd on lap 27. The front two remained unchanged until lap 46 when the leaders came upon lapped traffic. The No. 87 of Ty Hayes got held up behind a slower car and that was when the No. 35 of Bobby Stremme made his move. Stremme reached the checkered flag first to win the race and the Late Model Championship. Ty Hayes and his No. 87 machine followed closely in this race and in the Points Race to finish 2nd with Ron Maynard No. 27 finishing 3rd, Brandon Maynard No. 14 finishing 4th and the No. 1 of Craig Cassel rounding off the top 5.
The Street Stock A Feature started with the No. 150 of Mike Overholser starting on the pole with the No. 42 of Sie Sharp starting on the outside. The inside of row 2 was John Wheeler No. 68 and to his right door the No. 87 of Bobby Prince. The pole sitter led this race until lap 10 when ‘Frosty’ Scott Frost No. 125 took over the lead. The No. 1 of Al Maurer took over the 2nd spot on lap 16 and by lap 24 the field was set and remained unchanged until the checkered flag. No. 125 of Scott Frost won this race, the No. 1 of Al Maurer finished 2nd, the No. 67 of ‘Smokey’ Mike Robinson finished 3rd, Dave Coleman and his Monteith Tire No. 6 finished 4th and bringing home 5th was the 2009 Street Stock Champion, the No. 17 of Bobby Schisler Jr.
The Street Stock B Feature saw the No. 60 of Brandon Fink on the pole with the No. 79 of Chad McGinnis and starting in the 3rd spot was the 2009 Pure Stock Champion, the No. 47 of ‘The Bull Dog’ Gene Hughes. Burney Arnett No. 98 worked his way from the back to take the lead on lap 4 and continued on to win this race. The No. 33 of Kyle Crain, who won an A Feature this year, gave Arnett a run for his money but finished a close 2nd and the Doughboy, Larry Saunders No. 71 finished 3rd.
The Mini Stock A Feature seemed to go fairly smoothly considering it was Championship Night. Timmy Dooley No. 18 started on the pole with the No. 1 of Nick Huffman on the outside pole. 2nd row, inside was the No. 92 of Tim Kidder and to his right was the No. 14 of Rick Keiser. Ryan Yaratch No. 92 surprised us all by going from the back to the lead in a matter of 13 laps. One thing was certain. This 17-year-old kid was on FIRE! Ryan did a great job of holding onto the lead but if he would have had a rearview mirror he would have seen that the No. 6 of Jim Anglemyer was chasing him down. Ryan made the slightest slip up on the last lap of the Feature and Anglemyer was there to take advantage of it as he passed ‘Flyin’ Ryan" for his 11th win of the season. The No. 92 of Yaratch finished 2nd, the No. 17 of JR Ryman, who finished 2nd in this years points run, finished 3rd, the No. 12 of Bryan Allen finished 4th and the No. 34 of Kermit, Mark Hughes, finished 5th. Jim Anglemyer was crowned Mini Stock Champion again this year for his 2nd Championship in a row.
The Mini Stock B Feature pole sitter was brand new driver, the No. 4 of Pedro Keiser, to his right door was the No. 97 of Kevin Allen. 2nd row inside was the No. 50 of Fred Garret and the No. 00 of T.J. Szalewski started on the 2nd row outside. The No. G3 of George Flowers, who had a few hard hits this year, came from mid pack to take the lead on lap 4. Right on his tale was his long time friend and teammate and the B Feature Dominator this season, the No. 86 of Bobby Archer. The No. G3 led the rest of the race to win his first Feature of the year with the No. 86 right on his tail, finishing 2nd. 3rd went to the No. 50 of Fred Garrett.
Its Blowout time again at New Paris Speedway! September 18th and 19th. Lots of Racing, Lots of Friends and Lots of FUN! See you at the Races!
The No. 97 Mini Stock driver, Kevin Allen had a tragedy in his family as his brother, Tommy, was killed in an accident this week. On behalf of the Marc Times Racing News, Stock Car Extreme and Unleashed Racing, I would like to give our deepest condolences to Kevin and his family during this terrible time. You and your family are in our constant thoughts and prayers.
