in searching through my collection of book's i have finally come across my book that started this entire post,HOOSIER HYSTERIA the history of basketball in the state of indiana from it's inception to 1972.

the game as we know it today has evolved as the result of some of the significant rules changes since the original rules were set down by Dr. Naismith in 1892.In the basketball handbook,Published for the 1968-69 and 1969-70 ,a brief "timetable" of a few more significant rule changes are listed.
1894-free throw adopted as penalty for fouls
1896-five players on each team for an official game
1898-dribbling the ball legalized
1906-open- end baskets legalized
1908-double dribble prohibited
1910- player with four fouls disqualified
1932-10 second rule in back court adopted
1937-jump ball after each successful goal eliminated
1938-five time-outs permitted each team per game
1940-fan shaped backboards legalized
1941-present day 3 second rule adopted
1944-player permitted to reenter any number of times
1949-molded type ball made mandatory
1954-bonus penalty for common fouls
1955-free throw line widened to 12 feet
1957-penalty adopted for actionless game by responsible team
1962-player control foul(no free throws)
1963-clock stopped for all violation's

the exact date that basketball was first played in Indiana is not recorded.however ,according to an article in the Crawfordsville journal and review, the first basketball game played in the united states outside of the state of massachusetts, where it originated in 1891,was in crawfordsville ind,in the spring of 1893.Dr.jame b. griffith,a physician who was living in crawfordsville when the article was written in 1944,played in that first game, just a practice affair, staged in the gymnasium in the old y.m.c.a building erected in 1888 on west main street.

oh,another one of those ayy,a championship in the class system,is no better than a regional win,and everyone get's cut short in the competition field.the only reason the class system was even activated by IHSAA was to increase revenue by and for the IHSAA.it has been a flop since day one,in recent post's in the indianapolis star,it has been stated that the fan base for the championship games at the conseco fieldhouse have been so poor that the revenue can't even pay the electricity bill owed for that evening's program, and conseco fieldhouse has been footing the utility bill,in another interview with a top IHSAA elected member was quoted as saying that the only reason that hoosier high school basketball hasn't returned to the one class system is that the IHSAA is afraid to publicly admitt that they failed miserably.bob
